Regarding the distribution of symbols, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has implemented new guidelines for Registered Unrecognized Political Parties (RUPPs). In order to apply for election symbols, these parties must now provide audited accounts of the previous three fiscal years, expenditure statements from the previous two elections, and the signature of an authorized office-bearer. The purpose of this action is to improve accountability and transparency among political parties, particularly those that have recently registered or have not yet received a sufficient percentage of the vote to be acknowledged as state parties. The amended rules will take effect on January 11th.
