According to the upcoming memoir "Four Stars of Destiny" by former Army Chief General M M Naravane, the introduction of the Agnipath military recruitment scheme caught the armed forces off guard. According to Gen. Naravane, he had suggested the Tour of Duty model for a limited intake of jawans, but Agnipath ended up applying to all new recruits in the Army, Navy, and Air Force—and for just four years.
