After observing that it is against the constitutional scheme to constantly summon officials rather than depending on government lawyers, the Supreme Court of India issued the SOP for summoning government officials. The SOP seeks to set rules and prevent courts from abusing their summons authority, which frequently puts pressure on the government. It says that public servants cannot be called in simply because their position is different from the court's. By preventing needless harassment of public servants, this action brings much-needed reforms to strengthen the coordination between the executive and judicial branches.
