These five Zonal Councils are chaired by the Union Home Minister, with members consisting of the Chief Ministers of the States and the Administrator/Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territories from their respective Zonal Councils. Each year, one of these members rotates as Vice-Chairman. The 26th Eastern Zonal Council meeting was recently presided over by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Patna, Bihar. Senior Ministers from Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand attended the meeting, along with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
