Recently, two gene therapies for sickle cell disease were approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. It contains the first medication made possible by the ground-breaking CRISPR gene editing technique. For patients 12 years of age and older, both treatments were approved. The ground-breaking gene editing technique that earned its creators the 2020 Nobel Prize is used in the Vertex/CRISPR gene therapy.
