The Rajya Sabha recently approved the Mediation Bill, 2023. It intends to reduce the duration of the mediation process to 180 days. The bill reduces the time needed to wrap up mediation proceedings in half. Pre-litigation mediation has been made voluntary rather than mandatory under the other important recommendation of the Parliamentary committee accepted by the government.
