Changes in interest rates for small savings plans are announced by the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. The government recently increased the interest rates for a number of small savings programs, including the senior citizen savings program, for the quarter from January to March. While the Sukanya Samriddhi account scheme will continue to earn 7.6% interest rate, the PPF will continue to earn 7.10%.
