The Income-tax Department reported that there has been an increase in the number of Income-tax Returns (ITRs) filed, setting a new record. ITRs for AY 2023–24 totaled more than 6.77 crore as of July 31st, 2023, which is 16.1% more than ITRs for AY 2022–23 (5.83 crore) as of the same date. On July 31, 2023, more than 64.33 lakh ITRs were submitted in a single day.
