The Indian Coast Guard Aquatic Centre was inaugurated on April 6, 2024, at ICGS Mandapam, close to Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, by Director General Rakesh Pal. Throughout his four-day journey through Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Puducherry, he evaluated the state of infrastructure development and operational readiness. In his interactions with the officers, he highlighted a shared vision for safe seas. Prime Minister Morarji Desai formally opened the Indian Coast Guard in 1978. The Coast Guard was founded in 1977 under the Ministry of Defence with the goal of preventing smuggling and safeguarding marine resources.
