Inflation measured by the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) fell to a 25-month low of 3.85 percent in February 2023. WPI-based inflation has fallen for nine months in a row. According to government statistics, the decline is the result of falling prices for manufactured goods, fuel, and electricity. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 6.50 percent and cited persistently sticky core inflation as its justification.
