A nuclear power information center was opened by the military-led government of Myanmar and the state atomic energy company of Russia. This is viewed as a first step toward creating atomic power to address the country's energy deficit in Southeast Asia. According to a preliminary agreement signed in 2015 between Myanmar and Russia's Rosatom, Myanmar intends to construct and run a reactor.
