The purchase of a homegrown Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) has been suggested by the Indian Army in order to close crucial capability gaps in high-altitude areas. Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) created the ATAGS to take the place of the Bofors towed guns, the current 155 mm artillery system in use.
