A recent move saw 40 spotted deer from Mysuru Zoo moved to the Panasoli range of Kali Tiger Reserve. Native to the Indian subcontinent, spotted deer, also known as chital, are common in Indian forests. They live in subtropical grasslands and forests, measuring 35 inches in height and 187 pounds. They have a lifespan of 20 to 30 years. They live in social herds of ten to fifty individuals, and only the males have antlers. The IUCN Red List has the species listed as 'Least Concern'.
