A male tiger has been moved to Satna's Mukundpur Safari from the Kanha Tiger Reserve. The largest Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, Kanha, is spread over 940 sq km in the districts of Mandla and Balaghat. It was created on June 1st, 1955, and was designated as a tiger reserve in 1973. It is comprised of hills, valleys, plateaus, and undulating forests. The reserve is home to "Bhoorsingh the Barasingha," India's first tiger reserve mascot, and is thought to have served as inspiration for Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book.
