Thirty years after William Claxton Peppé's 1898 discovery of four bone fragments of Lord Buddha at Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh, they will be transported to Thailand as the Kapilvastu Relics. The artifacts were taken out of the ancient Kapilavastu city. Buddhists believe that at the age of 80, Buddha attained salvation in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, and that his relics were distributed among various communities to build stupas. Later, Ashoka enshrined them in numerous stupas to propagate Buddhism.
