Famous Tamil poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar is best known as the creator of the Tirukkura, a collection of couplets on politics, economics, and love. In Tamil Nadu, Thiruvalluvar Day is observed in conjunction with Pongal festivities. The 'Vallalar Palluyir Kappagangal,' a Rs 20 crore scheme announced for animal welfare, was introduced by chief minister MK Stalin on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day.
