Since May 2022, the lumpy skin disease virus has killed about 100,000 cattle. However, Indian scientists have made great progress in understanding the virus's genetic makeup. Cattle that contract Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) are infected with the LSDV virus, which belongs to the capripoxvirus genus. Despite being endemic in Africa, the Middle East, and some regions of Asia, LSD does not infect humans and is spread by contaminated water and food sources, as well as by insects that feed on human blood.
