After Azerbaijan reclaimed control over Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenian separatists, Russian peacekeepers are leaving the region. Azerbaijan and Armenia have both claimed Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Artsakh, a mountainous region in the South Caucasus since 1917. Despite being acknowledged by the international community as a part of Azerbaijan, the region is primarily home to ethnic Armenians, who have their own government. Due to their shared religious and historical ties to the area, tensions between Armenians and Azerbaijanis persist.
