The second stage of China's Five-Hundred Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) expansion has commenced. With a diameter of 500 meters and a reception area equivalent to 30 football fields, FAST, which is situated in Guizhou Province, is the biggest and most sensitive radio telescope in the world. Its objectives include searching for extraterrestrial intelligence, detecting neutral hydrogen, finding pulsars, and taking part in gravitational wave detection. International networks for high-resolution celestial investigations are also joined by FAST. The European Southern Observatory (ESO) and ICRAR in Australia are partners in the development of the data system.
