By 2028 or 2029, India plans to operationally implement its own long-range air defense system. At ranges of up to 350 kilometers, this indigenous system is intended to identify and eliminate a broad variety of threats, such as drones, stealth fighters, aircraft, cruise missiles, and precision-guided munitions. Project Kusha is a large-scale initiative that falls under the Defense Research and Development Organization's (DRDO) jurisdiction. The Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system, which the Indian Air Force recently acquired, is comparable to the interception capabilities of the Long-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LR-SAM) that is currently under development.
