To encourage trade, investment, and tourism, Bangladesh will receive 400 million US dollars in loans from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the construction of 102 kilometers of dual gauge railways between Chattogram and Cox's Bazar. The Trans-Asia Railway (TAR) network, an initiative spearheaded by the United Nations, aims to provide seamless rail links between Asia and Europe to better connect people and markets. The Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Railway is a part of this network.
