A US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) report on violations against religious minorities was rejected by India.
The 1998 International Religious Freedom Act established USCIRF as a separate government agency in the United States. It keeps an eye out for violations of religious freedom around the world and advises the President, Secretary of State, and Congress of the United States on matters of policy.
With assistance from a nonpartisan staff, the President or Congressional leaders appoint USCIRF's nine commissioners. It highlights "Countries of Particular Concern" in its yearly report on religious freedom. The report evaluates transgressions using international norms, such as Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
