At the Phanigiri site in the Suryapet district of Telangana, the Department of Archaeology and Museums uncovered an Ikshvaku period coin hoard. The Buddhist site of Phanigiri, which translates to 'hillock of snake hood,' is about 110 kilometers from Hyderabad. A life-size Stucco of a Bodhisattva, viharas, a Mahastupa, and Chaitya Grihas were discovered during excavations. A thorana's panel indicating the coexistence of the Hinayana and Mahayana sects was also discovered, along with Brahmi label inscriptions from the Satavahana and Ikshvaku periods (~2nd – 3rd Century A.D.).
