The School Soil Health Programme was introduced in New Delhi by the Union Ministers for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare. A pilot project was started in 20 rural Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalaya schools by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Department of School Education and Literacy working together. It included creating study guides, setting up soil labs, and training instructors and students. The program, which has now reached 1000 schools, encourages students to gather soil samples, test them in labs, and inform farmers using the Soil Health Cards that are generated.
