Arunachal Pradesh showcased its 17-square-kilometer Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve, a biodiversity hotspot close to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, during the Republic Day parade. The reserve was created in 2017 to protect the critically endangered Bugun Liocichla, a passerine bird that bears the name of the Buguns community. The Buguns are an indigenous people who live in 12 villages next to Eaglenest, numbering about 2,000. The Wildlife Protection Act of India established community reserves, which are essential links, buffers, and migratory routes between national parks and forests, guaranteeing the preservation of biodiversity.
