Near a tribal settlement near Peechi Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala's Thrissur district, a female elephant just passed away from electrocution. The 125 square kilometre Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary in Thrissur was created in 1958. It belongs to the Palapilli-Nelliampathy woods and is situated in the catchment area of the Peechi and Vazhani Dams. The tallest peak is Ponmudi, and the terrain ranges in elevation from 100 to 914 meters. Tropical woods, more than fifty orchid species, rare medicinal plants, and precious trees like teak can all be found in the sanctuary.
