In the last two years, dozens of exotic animals and birds that had been moved to Gujarat's Sardar Patel Zoological Park, close to the Statue of Unity, have died. Dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the statue is 182 meters tall and is located near the Narmada Dam on Sadhu Bet Island in Gujarat. The statue, which pays tribute to India's "Iron Man," was designed by Ram V Sutar and built by Larsen & Toubro. The project, which cost INR 3,050-crore and covered 20,000 square meters with a 12-square-kilometer artificial lake surrounding it, was funded by the Gujarati government.
