On Navy Day in 2023, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers presented the Indian Navy with INS Sandhayak, the largest survey vessel ever built in India. GRSE is building four Survey Vessels (Large), the first of which is INS Sandhayak. The first of four sophisticated Survey Vessels (Large), or SVLs, is called INS Sandhayak. It is a redesigned variant of a ship of the same name that served as a survey ship in the Indian Navy between 1981 and 2021. These survey ships can determine navigation channels and routes in addition to conducting comprehensive coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys of port and harbor approaches.
