The fossilized apex predator mosasaur found in Japan's Wakayama Prefecture has been given the name "Wakayama Soryu," or Blue Dragon. In 2006, researcher Akihiro Misaki found the nearly complete 72 million-year-old fossil. It was recently described in detail in a study published in the Journal of Systematic Paleontology.
