The report on the sixth census of minor irrigation (MI) schemes was made public by the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It demonstrated that there are now more groundwater and surface water schemes nationwide. Out of the 23.14 million MI schemes that were examined, 21.93 million (or 94.8%) are groundwater schemes, and 1.21 million (or 5.2%) are surface water schemes.
