The Scheme for Viability Gap Funding (VGF) to promote the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) has been approved by the Union Cabinet. By 2030–2031, this program hopes to produce 4,000 MWh of BESS projects, supported by up to 40% in VGF for capital costs. The plan aims to give citizens access to safe, dependable, and affordable electricity. It aims to achieve a Levelized Cost of Storage (LCoS) ranging from Rs. 5.50 to Rs. 6.60 per kWh with an initial investment of Rs. 9,400 crores.
