Recently, a fire in the Sulthan Bathery forest range within the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary (WWS), situated in Wayanad, Kerala, destroyed nearly 100 hectares of forest. The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve includes the sanctuary, which was founded in 1973 and covers an area of about 344.44 square kilometers. Its boundaries are shared by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka protected areas. The sanctuary is home to many different tribes and has a wide variety of plants, such as silver oak, teak, rosewood, and eucalyptus.
