World Braille Day is celebrated on January 4 of each year to highlight the value of braille as a communication tool for the blind and partially sighted. The United Nations General Assembly first established the day in 2019, and January is recognized as Braille Literacy Month. Louis Braille, a French educator who created the Braille system, was born on January 4, 1809.
