A needle-free, shockwave-based syringe was created at IIT Bombay to deliver drugs painlessly while lowering the risk of infection and skin harm. The syringe creates a microjet of liquid medication that enters the skin without the need for needles by using high-energy shockwaves. It is powered by pressurised nitrogen gas and has a driver, driven section and medicine holder. In rat experiments, it demonstrated more tissue penetration with less skin injury. The device is cost-effective because it may be used over 1,000 times and simply requires nozzle changes. It could reduce the danger of infections from needles and speed up vaccination campaigns like Mission Indradhanush.
