The first locally made antibiotic in India that targets antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is nafithromycin, which was created by Wockhardt with assistance from BIRAC. It is ten times more effective than azithromycin and is used to treat community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (CABP). After 14 years of research, this important discovery attempts to address the worldwide health epidemic of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which causes millions of lives every year. The medication is awaiting final Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) approval before going on sale.
