On Callisto, a moon of Jupiter, scientists have discovered ozone evidence, providing new information about the chemical processes that occur on icy celestial bodies. The study focuses on the chemical evolution of sulfur dioxide under ultraviolet radiation, or 'SO2 astrochemical ice'. A characteristic ozone formation signature was revealed by analyzing the UV absorption spectra of irradiated ice samples. Because of its stable surface, Callisto could be home to potential habitats or subsurface oceans, which could indicate the presence of extraterrestrial life.
