The 'Mengxiang,' a cutting-edge new ocean drilling vessel from China, is intended to break through the Earth's crust and reach the mantle for the first time in human history. The Mengxiang is planning to drill over 7,000 meters below the ocean floor to breach the Mohorovicic discontinuity (Moho). If successful, this would pave the way for never-before-seen levels of scientific exploration and discovery on Earth. Built in cooperation between more than 150 institutions and China's Geological Survey, the Mengxiang is a massive, specially outfitted vessel that can withstand harsh environments.
