The President has given his approval for the presentation of 106 Padma Awards in 2023, including 6 Padma Vibhushans, 9 Padma Bhushans, and 91 Padma Shri Awards. Padma Vibhushan awards were given to Srinivas Varadhan, Balkrishna Doshi, Zakir Hussain, SM Krishna, Dilip Mahalanabis, and Mulayam Singh Yadav (posthumously). During the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, when cholera broke out, Dr. Dilip Mahalanabis fought for his country and helped save millions of lives. The Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) was invented by him.
