The golden trevally, a valuable marine fish, has been successfully bred in captivity by the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. This innovation will improve the production of seafood sustainably and stimulate the mariculture sector in India. The reef-dwelling species known as golden trevally shares a home with larger fish like skates and groupers. It is both decorative and used for consumption. Within the Exclusive Economic Zone, CMFRI monitors and evaluates marine fisheries resources on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. CMFRI is a division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and was founded in 1967.
