In Assam's 'citrus belt,' swallowtail butterflies have been damaged by the overexploitation of 25 medicinal host plants. With the exception of the Arctic, swallowtail butterflies are found all over the world and are members of the Papilionidae family. Of the 573 swallowtail species, 77 are found in India. Certain swallowtail species imitate the patterns and colours of protected butterflies. Illegal cattle farming, agriculture, tea growing, tree cutting, and pesticide use are among the threats. Since the health of butterflies reflects the diversity and health of ecosystems, they are significant environmental indicators.
