A five-year extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) free ration scheme has been announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In accordance with the National Food Security Act of 2013, the PMGKAY was implemented in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic to give 5 kg of free foodgrains to qualified ration card holders.
