The Karnataka tributary of the Kaveri, the Lakshmana Tirtha River, has completely dried up due to severe drought and extreme heat. It rises in the Brahmagiri hills and flows east to Krishna Raja Sagara Lake, where it meets the Kaveri River. Along its path, close to Kerala's border, is the well-known Lakshmanatirtha Falls, also known as Irupu Falls. Hindus revere the Kaveri River, which rises at Talakaveri and empties into the Bay of Bengal at Poompuhar, Tamil Nadu.
