Due to Islamabad's resistance to its implementation, India has given Pakistan notice that the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) of 1960 needs to be modified. The notice was delivered via the appropriate Indus Waters Commissioners. After nine years of negotiations, India and Pakistan signed the pact in 1960, with the World Bank also ratifying it.
