Luna-25, the first lunar mission launched by Russia in nearly 50 years, collided with the moon one day after spinning out of control. Since joining the Soviet Union in 1976, Russia had not conducted a lunar mission. The Soviet Union, the United States, and China are the only three governments to have accomplished successful moon landings.
