According to the most recent data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), India saw a rise in cybercrimes of 24% in 2022 compared to 2021. Other categories of crime, such as economic offences (11%), crimes against senior citizens (9%), and crimes against women (4%), also saw an increase. As per the 'Crime in India' report, there were 65,893 cases of cybercrime reported, which represents a 24.4% rise from the 52,974 cases in 2021. A total of 1,93,385 cases were registered under economic offences, according to NCRB data; this represents an increase of 11.1% over the 1,74,013 cases in 2021.
