178 species of wild birds were noted as needing immediate priority for conservation in the "State of India's Birds" report. 60 percent of the 338 bird species studied in India for population changes over the past 30 years have seen a decline. Of the 359 species that were assessed for change over the past seven years, 40% (142) have decreased.
