Noctis, a massive volcano on Mars, is situated on the eastern edge of Tharsis, a wide regional topographic rise, and was recently discovered by scientists. At 9,022 meters in height and 450 kilometers in width, the volcano surpasses Mount Everest by nearly 200 meters. It is situated in Eastern Noctis Labyrinthus, west of Valles Marineris, the planet's extensive canyon system, and south of the equator of Mars. Data from NASA's Mariner 9, Viking Orbiter 1 and 2, Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Odyssey, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter missions, as well as ESA's Mars Express mission, were used by scientists to find Noctis.
