Sue Redfern became the first female neutral umpire to referee a bilateral series when she was appointed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Australia vs. South Africa in the ICC Women's Championship and the T20I series will be officiated by Redfern. Seven additional unbiased female umpires were also chosen by the ICC to officiate the Women's Championship series. Redfern's appointment was made with the intention of advancing gender diversity in officiating roles.
