Which state has recently seen the discovery of a new species of amphipod, Demaorchestia alanensis?

Demaorchestia alanensis, named for renowned crustacean taxonomist Professor Alan Myers, is a new species of marine amphipod found in Chilika Lake by researchers from Berhampur University in Odisha. The ecological roles of amphipods along the Indian coast are largely unknown. With this new finding, there are now six species of Demaorchestia known to exist worldwide. By examining these bioindicator species, it will be possible to better understand how climate change is affecting coastal ecosystems.
