The Lesser Himalayas are the source of the Gaula River, also referred to as the Gola River, a river that flows through India and is about 500 km long. Recently, the Uttarakhand government was given permission by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change to continue mining operations in the Gaula River in the Nainital district until June 30.
